Supervision
Supervision is essential in the counselling profession. It is not only an ethical requirement but extremely important in our work with our clients. It helps to maintain confidentiality as it offers a safe space to talk about client issues and to explore areas of concern. It also gives the counsellor a place to reflect on themselves and to be able to look at anything that could get in the way of the counselling relationship and also to look at areas of personal and professional development.
I am a qualified clinical supervisor working with both experienced counsellors and counsellors in training. I have experience of working with counsellors who work in school and college environments and counsellors who work in agencies dealing with issues such as bereavement or domestic abuse. I also work with counsellors in private practice. I work with an integrative approach as well as following the “Seven eyed Model” of supervision.
Supervision means to “oversee” and using the seven eyed model it is possible to pay attention to all the aspects of the counselling and supervisory relationship. I believe that supervision should be an experience where the supervisee feels safe to be able to reflect openly and honestly without judgement. This exploration will help the supervisee gain insight into the wider issues and difficulties that maybe affecting themselves or their clients.
As your supervisor I will strive to create this environment where you will be valued and respected and I will also challenge you to encourage your personal and professional development.
